So, you have done your research and found that one of the best places to study abroad, is Canada. You love that Canada ranks as having one of the best educational systems in the world, and the fact that it is affordable is a bonus. You’ve also already called all your friends to tell them about your plans to move.
Before finalizing your decision, there are a few things you need to know and do to ensure your dreams of studying in Canada are achieved.

1. Applying to Study in Canada:
As is the case with universities and colleges worldwide, there is a process that needs to be followed to ensure that you qualify and are accepted to study there. In Canada these processes include:
Having a good understanding of the entrance requirements, like the grades required to qualify for acceptance.
Knowing which institutions, you would like to study at.
Ensuring that your previous grades are from an educational institution that is recognized within Canada.
And if not, looking at possible bridging courses to help get you closer to your dream of studying in one of the friendliest countries in the world.
2. English Language Proficiency Test:
As a prospective international student, you would need to pass a language proficiency test, to enter Canada. This test can be in English or French, and it would need to be booked for and written before your trip. IELTS test is scored on a scale of 1 to 9, and is split in 4 sections – reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The average expected score is between 6 to 7 for a first language speaker.
3. Costs of Study in Canada:
Student fees are a lot lesser than at other international institutions for example a student in Canada can expect to pay around 25,000 USD in comparison to the average US University fees of 32,000 USD. 4. Your Canada Study Visa and Canada Study Permit:
If the course you choose is longer that 6 months, then you would need to apply for a study permit.
You would require an acceptance letter from the university/college of your choice, your passport, and additional documentation to obtain this.
5. There are two Official Languages:
You may hear the locals speak French, especially near and within Quebec. Do not be alarmed, your flight did not land in the wrong country. We have 2 official languages: English, and French.
The majority of our citizens speak English, but we do have a fair amount of native French speakers as well.
